There is a new trend of hybrid lipsticks available in drugstores as well as department stores. They are supposed to have the feel of a lip balm, shine of a gloss and the color of a lipstick.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Maybelline The Elixir</b> was launched at least 6-8 months ago in a huge range of colors. In Canada there are 20 shades available at around $8 - 10. The tube is very interesting as it appears to encase a lipstick bullet but actually is a gloss wand. The applicator is slightly bent with grooves to pick up more product. The shade I purchased is 500 breathtaking apricot. <br />
This shade is more of a peachy pink with yellow shimmers. The gloss lasts about 2-3 hours on me and leaves a stain that is not obnoxious. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxBPCXSKPQs8s1HZsAHd9j40Of-vbZ0kDowLfQ90WSqy7qFucXmXs0B_VnNd85DBoxfGeFYSUfmAnNmT6vKlcSafi_Y8PXOemENIIUBPwaNfDjZeUjjn06u9JJhjQUHWLjDDjO8By2CMs/s640/20140612_213432.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxBPCXSKPQs8s1HZsAHd9j40Of-vbZ0kDowLfQ90WSqy7qFucXmXs0B_VnNd85DBoxfGeFYSUfmAnNmT6vKlcSafi_Y8PXOemENIIUBPwaNfDjZeUjjn06u9JJhjQUHWLjDDjO8By2CMs/s640/20140612_213432.jpg" /></a></div>
While browsing at the duty free shop in the airport I was drawn to the beautiful display of Dior lipsticks. Without much thought I picked up the hot newly launched <b>Fluid Stick</b> in Tiny Pink. It's a golden peachy pink with a hint of neon sparkles. The case is shaped much like the Maybelline one but feels much more sturdier and luxurious. The wand is a plush doe foot applicator. The color is beautiful, almost milky peach and appears to be much lighter at first until it settles into the lips to a pretty color. It retails at $36 and there are 16 shades. These have been heavily marketed and several shades are sold out on Sephora website. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEjZR9-PWMyjrHdTha1S3GqyjVauk1aGulU18CsVAjfHTSGARp9U17CjRLAkmOtc6pR3Lu1PFIeyVE3zsv8EcYCIRHoLpkPGghGicyNMniD6sN72q8li9T5Ao7KMcfo1J3136gW06kEAM/s640/20140612_213420.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEjZR9-PWMyjrHdTha1S3GqyjVauk1aGulU18CsVAjfHTSGARp9U17CjRLAkmOtc6pR3Lu1PFIeyVE3zsv8EcYCIRHoLpkPGghGicyNMniD6sN72q8li9T5Ao7KMcfo1J3136gW06kEAM/s640/20140612_213420.jpg" /></a></div>
<div dir="ltr">
It's hard not to compare the two as they are so similar. <br />
Formulation are quite similar and feel like a thick but smooth gloss on the lips. The Maybelline one is a bit sheer so need several coats to achieve the opaque color I want. Whereas Dior only needs one coat. <br />
As for the wear time Maybelline seems to last a little longer as it leaves more of a stain than the Dior one. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
The Elixir has a bit of an artificial vanilla scent which doesn't linger long. Fluid stick has a fruity scent that is light and not noticeble once applied. Both are very moisturizing and feel comfortable on the lips.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK4BYls8ZYlDJNN0PFi1d3ZeOpENxvJNo9jdYpL9izvdZWdhMXgKma3dbrf65Je8PQKio3MmfFMGL_mv1TdTa0gt8K7gBtTg9IP8MgzbOLcCOdjMH3hE4F3izqwJW65xvgP0Yuw5xE5Ls/s640/20140612_213455.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Dior applicator on left, Maybelline on right</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</div>
<div dir="ltr">
If you are looking to buy one of these I would suggest The Elixir based on the fact that it is almost 1/4 of the price of Dior and the wide availability, especially if you want to try several colors. $36 is very steep for a product that has an almost identical dupe available in drugstores.<br />
The shades available in Dior are not as commonly found in drugstores lip glosses which is one of the reasons to consider it.<br />
Have you tried any of these hybrid lipsticks? </div>

<br />
A fountain of youth. Does that exist? Well the cosmetic industry will want you to believe that such thing exists. As you all know I am such a beauty product junkie, I will try as many as products as possible.<br />
Racinne is a company represented by a branding company in Vancouver, run by a group of friends. It is a Hong Kong based cosmetic company, utilizing Korean skincare technology. <br />

The serum is encased in a gold bottle with a lid. The bottle is made of plastic, so it is lightweight and easy to travel with. The serum is on the watery side and absorbs quickly.<br />

I really liked its citrus scent because it was refreshing rather than overwhelming like some other heavily perfumed products.<br />
After using the serum consistently for 4 weeks, my face looked brighter and felt more supple. It did not give any trouble (such as clogged pores, irritations) and kept my skin looking rather smooth.<br />
<br />
Racinne Youth Power Serum is currently being sold at T&T locations and can be purchased <a href="http://www.racinne.ca/collections/ultimate-youth-power/products/ultimate-youth-power-serum" target="_blank">online</a> at around $60 for 30ml. Compared to the high-end serums at Sephora and the department stores, this is definitely a bargain in price for a well performing skincare.<br />

Since moving to the East Coast, my skin has been through hell and back (or at least it feels like it). Due to the extremely cold weather, wind and hard water my skin has suffered greatly. Initially it was so dry that the whole face seemed to be tight and flaky. Now that it is getting warmer, the humidity is adding to the assault by making my skin quite oily.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I do love my base products and have accumulated a number of foundations over the last 6 months. Currently here are 2 of my go-to foundations.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Covergirl Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 foundation (Medium Beige) - $12 CAD</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYjCFh3biXZcOfkTH0xi4XstZlXZww-FipgDbhzdPWf9VzDEEzHODfXAcsA365h9H196pk0K13dPtvW4WNx8XozjUWSLJBeuLI5PSYE7UWmz1NlODjDxEnXfGNmdLUbZqhkkYkGKYwh9k/s1600/20140516_201956.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYjCFh3biXZcOfkTH0xi4XstZlXZww-FipgDbhzdPWf9VzDEEzHODfXAcsA365h9H196pk0K13dPtvW4WNx8XozjUWSLJBeuLI5PSYE7UWmz1NlODjDxEnXfGNmdLUbZqhkkYkGKYwh9k/s1600/20140516_201956.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
This is a very good drugstore foundation that gives med-full coverage. It is promoted as a base with primer, concealer and foundation all in one and is a drugstore dupe for Kat Von D's Lock It foundation.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqmpK4nfcfoCsmH9XSaGmmG94Gy-qTWqMSYDPuv4oakC8SJpnjOb1WBNMvq7v9J36GaWIjBPn_5hjXAFNiLyraMLjHhLIJiUf4soP2uSxNZiiNkIZ61KGlrcNm2H7smhMG2Gpfj0ps9Tk/s1600/20140516_202036.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqmpK4nfcfoCsmH9XSaGmmG94Gy-qTWqMSYDPuv4oakC8SJpnjOb1WBNMvq7v9J36GaWIjBPn_5hjXAFNiLyraMLjHhLIJiUf4soP2uSxNZiiNkIZ61KGlrcNm2H7smhMG2Gpfj0ps9Tk/s1600/20140516_202036.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
I really like that this foundation has a pump applicator with the SPF of 20. On my combination skin, it lasts up to 8 - 10 hours of wear. Even though the foundation has a high SPF, it does not create a white cast. This foundation, like other CG foundations, do oxidize a bit. It is advisable that you pick up a shade lighter than intended. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Pros - affordable, high coverage, wide selection of shades, lasts a long time (8+ hours) on the skin</div>
<div>
Cons - bit thick and needs a bit of time to blend</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I use my Beautyblender to blend this foundation and can easily skip using concealer for daily use. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Make Up Forever Duo Mat Powder foundation - $40 CAD</b><br />
I don't remember the last time I used a powder foundation. The last one I used was Studiofix, probably more than 10 years ago. When I traveled to Chicago last month, I wanted to bring a quick and easy but still quality foundation and picked up the Make Up Forever Duo Mat during the Sephora sale. As suggested on its box, the powder is best applied with the sponge it comes with. I have tried to wear the foundation with a brush but the coverage is too light for my liking.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GMRb417L9xI/U3axTnOlLRI/AAAAAAAAEEw/LBOIReNdMKs/s1600/20140516_202106.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GMRb417L9xI/U3axTnOlLRI/AAAAAAAAEEw/LBOIReNdMKs/s1600/20140516_202106.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I love how quick it is to do the whole face with this powder. I tend to use it over a tinted moisturizer (current favourite is Laura Mercier) or a BB cream.<br />
When I use concealer, I use it before this foundation. The coverage is medium but can be layered to full. It's best not to do more than a couple of layers or can get cakey.<br />
The oil breaks through about 4 hours in on my nose and need blotting but overall it lasts about 6 -7 hours.<br />
What I really like about this is the colour match - the yellow undertone makes this powder match my face perfectly (my shade is 203). </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

They are sold at Walmart, Target and online (www.well.ca). <div>The quality of the shadows is great considering that they are drugstore variety. The shadows are buttery and richly pigmented. With just one or two swipes you can have beautifully deposited color onto your lids. Since these are so soft, the powders tend to fall on the cheeks. So using an eyeshadow base is a must. And I actually like using my fingers or sponge applicators to apply rather than brushes. </div><div>The shadows are all warm tones with shimmers but are not too frosty. </div><div>Have you tried Wet n Wild eyeshadow? </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjak0-ibKkrNRKODyJ-IqA7Vk-W3H0nfgJWQhYaiUJt6kx2POAaNn-W4tEbSbnKvaOE5lHe44_225LQhTn-A9MpEWqdQAcg1UcdBF7xR_5uOkLg7g7XaZTP5gPAbXU6sD8ACBkeg9sWU6U/s640/blogger-image--506559433.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjak0-ibKkrNRKODyJ-IqA7Vk-W3H0nfgJWQhYaiUJt6kx2POAaNn-W4tEbSbnKvaOE5lHe44_225LQhTn-A9MpEWqdQAcg1UcdBF7xR_5uOkLg7g7XaZTP5gPAbXU6sD8ACBkeg9sWU6U/s640/blogger-image--506559433.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Here are the swatches. With the new season, I have been digging up my old stash of lipsticks and buying a couple more (because who doesn't need more lipsticks? :)). When I was browsing through them I realized I tend to buy the same tonal family of lipsticks - rosy/mauve pinks that can be categorized as My Lips But Better.<br>
Here are some of my favs, mostly from the drugstore.<br>
<br>
<b>Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Warm Me Up ($6 US $8 CAD) </b><br>
The Color Sensational Lipsticks come in several categories: Neutral, Pinks, Reds/brights.<br>
Warm Me up is from the Neutral line (indicated by the brown lid) and is a perfect "warm" pink. It is quite opaque and lasts at least 3 - 4 hours on the lips. The shade looks more orange in the tube but on my lips it gives a nice rosy color. It does have a scent - something like artificial vanilla. It's not too overwhelming for me but those who are sensitive to smell may not like it. <br>
<br>
<b>L'oreal Infallible Le Rouge Lipstick in Forever Frappe and Unending Kiss ($9 US $12 CAD)</b><br>
This is a super matte long wearing lipstick range that I really enjoy. Typically the long wearing lipsticks are 2 part system, that tends to have a gloss that you need to wear throughout the day. This does not give that glossy look; however, the color pay off is great. It is tad drying on the lips compared to other lipsticks but not uncomfortable. The lipstick stays on for at least 4 - 5 hours. If applied with heavy hand, the lipstick can chip off the lips.<br>
<br>
<b>YSL Rouge Volupte in Shade #3 & #23 ($34 US $39CAD) </b><br>
Rouge Volupte is a very luxurious, opulent line of lipsticks that a true makeup junkie would own at least one tube of. The case is a heavy embellished gold tube with the shade band in the middle of the tube. The lipstick itself is super creamy and buttery on the lips.<br>
Because my lips are on the white side, the true nude shades in the range do not suit me (makes me look very pale and sickly). #3 is called Ultimate Beige and is a orange-y toned beige on my lips.<br>
#23 is called Luscious Pink and is a good nude for my skin tone. It is a darker rosy color and brightens up my face nicely. <br>Due to its slippery texture, the color lasts only about a couple of hours and despite them feeling buttery, can be drying on the lips. <br>
<br>
<b>Shiseido Perfect Rouge in BE740 ($25 US, $30 CAD) </b><br>
This is also a beige-toned nude lipstick. The Lipstick is encased in a beautiful metal tube. The lipstick feels smooth on the lips and the color pay off is great. It lasts at least 3 hours on my lips. I tend to prefer rosy MLBB shades than beige shades so this has been in my makeup drawer for the last little while. <br>
<b><br></b>
<b>Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Fiend ($22US $26CAD) </b><br>
UD has launched a new line of lipsticks and this shade is described as muted rose. This lipstick is amazing. The metallic tube is heavy and has a nice "click" of the lid. The lipstick is very opaque and the color clings to the lips for hours. This shade is probably the brightest of the ones mentioned here. It is not drying and does not flake or fade weird. I am looking to purchase more shades (muted tones: Naked 2, Rush, Rapture). <br>

It has come a long way and has been constantly expanding its line. Now elf makeup can be as expensive (?) as $8 for the mineral foundation. The products are sold in Target but I tend to order directly from their website, as there aren't any Canadian retails that carry this line yet. The site always has some kind of promotion (either free extra products, shipping, or 40% - 50% off with a certain $ purchase). I almost always purchase the Studio line products when there was the 50% off sale. <br />
Some of the products are surprisingly awesome, some are okay and a few are horrible.I have had better luck with their Studio products than the original $1 line (Essentials). I have used up most of the products so do not have actual photos of them. elf makeup is definitely for those who like to try new things or trends in makeup or those who are budget conscious about makeup. It definitely adds to the fun of being a makeup junkie :)<br />
<br />
<b>Essential Blush Brush ($1)</b><br />
It was enticing to buy a makeup brush for $1; however, this is a poorly made and not very useful. The bristles are rough and started to shed right away. The brush is not dense enough to pick up the blush and gave a streaky look. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<b>Essential Liquid Eyeliner ($1)</b><br />
Non waterproof eyeliner but yet gives a very black line and for $1, it is great. I prefer waterproof liners just because my eyelids are oily. Otherwise would be a good choice for those wanting a cheap liquid liner. <br />
I have done a review on this on my Eyeliner post <a href="http://beautyjunkydiaries.blogspot.ca/2013/04/eyeliners.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Essential Nail Polish ($1, now $2) </b><br />
Very surprised at the quality of this polish. It is a standard nail polish that has a good pay off. <br />
<br />
<b>Studio Cream eyeliner ($3)</b><br />
I bought the Espresso thinking I would want a dark brown liner to try. The color was too sheer and the gel dried out quickly. I would not repurchase. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwcVf3SPt6IPdOd7frsT-X1__vMBOqtP-qcuAsGCxJmEyIvUIqcqro3GQTbyoqW6UGPuHMCmBdQ1QTiUgIYKrZvh5f0w4ifzHUsy3pkvWEz1vFKAzdGlpi1bAxMKlcX5WF9rbCtqMgmBo/s1600/31ZX-eZJEIL._SY355_.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwcVf3SPt6IPdOd7frsT-X1__vMBOqtP-qcuAsGCxJmEyIvUIqcqro3GQTbyoqW6UGPuHMCmBdQ1QTiUgIYKrZvh5f0w4ifzHUsy3pkvWEz1vFKAzdGlpi1bAxMKlcX5WF9rbCtqMgmBo/s320/31ZX-eZJEIL._SY355_.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Studio Eye primer and liner ($3) </b><br />
Unfortunately this did not work for me at all. The primer moved around and did not hold the shadows in place. The liner did not provide the budge - proofing I needed. I literally threw it out after using it only a couple of times :(<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Studio contouring blush and bronzing powder ($3)</b><br />
This is a dupe for Nars Orgasm blush and Laguna bronzer. The blush has visible flecks of shimmer which is not that noticeable on skin. The bronzer is too shimmery for my liking. I have hit pan on the blush and still do use it once in a while.<br />

<b><br /></b>
<b><br /></b>
<b><br /></b>
<b>Studio Blush ($3)</b><br />
I purchased several shades of these blushes. Again they are somewhat of a dupe for Nars blushes. They are super powdery and the colors are not as intense as the Nars blushes. Even the available shades are reminiscent of the Nars line. The shimmery blushes have large shimmer particles that do not look so flattering on the skin. The ones I like are Tickled Pink and Mellow Mauve. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo_dg85NB-SXUL2KAGYVhrIOd2AAUxw-HWukLBxYQ3I_-BFV6JZkeU_SGeBBFNvIwFoGkTpSGbeEZWpPaAR5nrMItdDhc1xl347eWxvqoQQZtzg6C5fmDqmcI1uqIyjk4fWR_MwO6TRX4/s1600/pink+blush.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo_dg85NB-SXUL2KAGYVhrIOd2AAUxw-HWukLBxYQ3I_-BFV6JZkeU_SGeBBFNvIwFoGkTpSGbeEZWpPaAR5nrMItdDhc1xl347eWxvqoQQZtzg6C5fmDqmcI1uqIyjk4fWR_MwO6TRX4/s320/pink+blush.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Studio High Definition Powder ($6)</b><br />
This is the only powder from elf I have purchased twice. Supposedly this is a dupe for Make Up Forever HD powder. The powder is very finely milled and while white in the tub, translucent on the skin. It helps to minimize oil and sets the make up for the day.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVJOc6TdfDlNz4T879N1PoF8naFv9ItkuKM6webHMLCHNykE_3IzwIcREsZiASipFwy8xe4J_0abE4XZC68pnBFqFKeYbh_2a87nyKDkJUGq_KSbUgQeDxYfCOpLYD4_9vnnfMclJkcjo/s1600/elf+powder.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVJOc6TdfDlNz4T879N1PoF8naFv9ItkuKM6webHMLCHNykE_3IzwIcREsZiASipFwy8xe4J_0abE4XZC68pnBFqFKeYbh_2a87nyKDkJUGq_KSbUgQeDxYfCOpLYD4_9vnnfMclJkcjo/s320/elf+powder.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Studio Bronzers ($3) in Warm and Golden</b><br />
Each palette has 4 different shades of bronzers, which you can use separately or swirled together. Golden shade is the lighter of the two and the colors are not too intense. The bronzer like the blushes are really powdery. It stays on about 3 - 4 hours on my combination skin.<br />

<b>Studio undereye concealer and highlighter ($3)</b><br />
Bought this on a whim and only used a couple of times before trashing it. The concealer is too thin to give proper coverage and the highlighter did not highlight but just blended into the skin.<br />
<br />
<b>Studio complete coverage concealer ($3)</b><br />
The palette looks very promising with 4 different shades of concealers and a little brush. However, it does not give proper coverage and even with multiple layers the concealer would not stay on the skin long. This made into<a href="http://beautyjunkydiaries.blogspot.ca/2013/01/hits-and-misses-2012.html" target="_blank"> misses </a> of 2012.<br />
<br />
<b>Studio brush set ($45, on sale for $30) </b><br />
My favourite purchase of the elf products! I love all the brushes in this set. The 11 piece will give you all the makeup brush you need for your makeup wardrobe. They are made of synthetic nylon bristles and work very well as intended. I love the blush brush and the powder brush. They are soft and easy to work with. <b> </b>There are 5 complexion related brushes and 6 eye related brushes. Some of the eyeshadow brushes are tad too small for my liking but overall this is a great buy. <br />

I used to love the Voluminous mascara from L'Oréal for a long time. Lately in my run to Superstore I picked this one up along with the newest mascara from L'Oréal, Telescopic Shocking Extension. As usual both I picked up are waterproof formula. <br />
The Voluminous mascara has a typical mascara brush. I think it's called Teddy bear brush. <br />
What I like about this mascara is the ease of use. With a couple of coats you get volume and length. The carbon black color is definitely very dark. <br />
The Voluminous mascara performs better after a few weeks after you open it. The formula is wet when it is first opened, and once the air hits it, the formula dries out a bit and helps to cling to the lashes better. This mascara can be built up without giving stiff lashes.<br />
Here I used the mascara without using an eyelash curler. What I don't love is that the tips of the lashes have this weird bent look.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have seen the Telescopic mascara for years but was not as interested because I am more interested voluminizing mascaras rather than lengthening. However since having watched a number of YouTubers raving about the mascara I had to give it a try. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The brush is pretty slim plastic bristles with flat sides. The package does not show how to use the brush. I sweep on the mascara with the flat side first and use the bristle to comb out the lashes. Even though it's meant to be a lengthening mascara, this gives decent length and volume. This mascara has a drier formula thus need to work quickly otherwise the lashes will clump.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Again, I used this without an eyelash curler and it gave me decent curl. After 2 - 3 coats, the lashes are longer, thicker and fluttery. Even my short lashed friends like this mascara as it definitely makes a difference. </div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I have naturally frizzy non-curly but slight wavy hair that is thick and coarse. I will never have to worry about going bald. Ever. And thanks to my genes the hair is quite resilient and strong. Albeit super dry and damaged from the coloring, straight perms and regular perms. I used to color my hair at least every 2 months until last year. I saw all the damage it had done to my hair and now I just color every four months - touching up my roots. (I use Japanese foam hair dye called Prettia). I wash my hair every 2 days and use minimal styling products. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The go-to brand of shampoo used to be Japanese brands such as Shiseido or Essential but they were quite expensive. Early this year I found Clear range via YouTube and I have been loving the results. I have gotten all my friends to use this line LOL. Clear is made by Unilever which is the company that makes Dove and Tresemme, both of which I do like. Clear line is meant to be used on your scalp as well as the hair, even for the conditioner. Their slogan is 'Stronger, more beautiful hair in 7 days, guaranteed'. Quite a lofty goal but I have to say the line does deliver. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The collection has Total Care, Damage & Color repair, Volumizing root boost, Strong lengths, Frizz control and Ultra Shea. Some of these collections are only available in the US. It is usually $5-7 depending on the store. The price is a little more than the typical drugstore shampoos but well worth it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX-JC51ueH72dLo_ZD3nnaoWNMvr5Tnrjb3CRd29vm2P5MyXn65k_cykOC7hXkXidcj2b5HvXCLcyoWTFB4j3nq5dqhyphenhyphenOcGZEvdR26m-h_0YW8yiMZKACf6XjtjjBKk8OThOBBSQDIqjM/s640/blogger-image-1124683365.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX-JC51ueH72dLo_ZD3nnaoWNMvr5Tnrjb3CRd29vm2P5MyXn65k_cykOC7hXkXidcj2b5HvXCLcyoWTFB4j3nq5dqhyphenhyphenOcGZEvdR26m-h_0YW8yiMZKACf6XjtjjBKk8OThOBBSQDIqjM/s640/blogger-image-1124683365.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The collection I use and love is Damage & Color repair. I have also used the Frizz control shampoo, ultra Shea conditioner and Clean & refresh shampoo (from the men's line). The ones in the picture are from Target (larger size $7 each). Not sure if the larger size with pump is available in Canada. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
After only one use I noticed a difference in my hair. The shampoo and conditions smell wonderful, fresh and sweet. It lathers very well which I love. The hair feels lighter and moisturized and does not feel like its weighed down. When I use Pantene or Dove the hair seems to 'get used' to the products and get some waxy build up. I am onto my 3rd or 4th bottle of these and haven't noticed any build up. I will continue to use this line. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Have you heard of 'Wen'? If you watch late night TV you may have come across the infomercial for the cleansing conditioner. Cleansing conditioner is supposed to be better for your hair as it does not contain the lathering sulphate and thus more nourishing to hair that's been damaged. It is supposed to not strip the hair and make the color stay in longer and keep the hair more moisturized. But Wen is about $38 for 16oz and that's only for a 2 month supply. I did some research and found the hair one cleansing conditioner at Sally's beauty supply. This was on sake for $9.99 for 12 oz. I do like the result of using this as the hair feels extra soft and not brittle at all. This one has a slight tingle once applied and even though there are no suds, my scalp does feel clean. It's just a little tedious and weird to get used to. The instructions on how to use this product is a little crazy. To summarize, it says to pump about 10 - 15 pumps of the product and distribute and message the scalp carefully for about 5 minutes on damp hair. Then pump another 10 - 15 pumps and work the rest of the hair; then let it sit for another 5 minutes before rinsing off. I don't know how long you usually take to shower but massaging your scalp for 5 minutes is a little too long (not to mention your arms feel super tired). While I like the results (hair does seem smoother and nourished) the whole massaging for 5 plus minutes, etc deters me from using it all the time. I have noticed that my hair dries a little faster (just a little) when I use the cleansing conditioner. </div>

<br />
After hair has been washed and dried, I use this leave in product - it's from a Japanese line Lux. This feels like a styling cream but does not have any hold. It makes my hair smoother and also less brittle than when I don't use it. I take a dollar size and rub it into the ends of the hair before combing. The results can be seen when the hair is dry, which is surprising because it does not feel any different when you comb it in.<br />

Highlighters are all the rage (along with bronzers/contouring powders). I was pretty late in joining the party as I only used to use blush on my cheeks. As I get older I realize how important to fake the glow of youth (aka teenage years). Purpose of highlighter is to emphasize high points such as cheekbones, forehead, bridge of the nose and to bring subtle glow to the face. The ones I use range from $3.99 to $50. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
To be honest I prefer higher end highlighters because the effect is more subtle and the shimmer particles and the powder are much finer and softer. However my favourite isn't the $50 Hourglass powder but the mid range $34 Benefit 10. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Etude house - model face color 01 highlight </b><br />
This Korean brand has so many cheek enhancing powders and they come out with a new one every year it seems. The one I have was purchased on ebay for about $7. Amongst all the highlighters this has the most sheen. The powder is a bit too loose and the shimmer tends to fall on other parts of the face which can make you look a bit like a disco ball if not careful. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Wet n wild - Reserve Your Cabana </b><br />
This giant highlighter is only $3.99!!! The size of it is about 4 times the Etude one and considering the price the quality is amazing. The powder is soft and finely milled. It gives a very subtle glow and can be dusted all over the face without being too shiny. This can be a quick dupe for the Hourglass Ambient powder in Diffused Light. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Hourglass - Diffused Light </b><br />
The packaging oh my. It is a beauty to hold. The powder is almost like silk and so very soft. This is supposed to cancel the redness in the face and not specified for highlighting. There are other powders in this line that are meant more as highlighters. The only reason I bought this $50 powder was because of a gift card. Otherwise I don't think it's worth the investment. The effect of this powder is so subtle it's hard to detect with eyes in my opinion. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Revlon - colorstay mineral finishing powder 010 brighten </b><br />
This is a very good pink shimmer highlighter found at the drugstore. I think I paid about $10. There is something about pink shimmer that makes a girl feel. so. pretty. This I use to highlight my browbone and the checks the most. The effect is just gorgeous. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Benefit - 10 </b><br />
This is a dual product of shimmer and bronzer in one. And this is the only product I have repurchased. The highlight has a subtle pink bronze look. Using the brush it comes with I sweep over the cheek area, voila! highlight and contour at once. Sometimes I forgo blush with this. And almost every time I wear it people ask what I am doing different with my makeup LOL. The reason I love this the most is the staying power. Unlike most of the other highlighters this one stays on for at least 4-5 hours on my combo skin. </div>

I love mascaras. I currently am rotating at least 4-5 different ones, which are all waterproof. I cannot wear regular ones because they do not keep my curls and will smudge. <br />
The ones I am loving are YSL singulier, Stila all day waterproof volumizing, Maybelline Rocket volume and Maybelline cat eye hyper curl (only in Asia). </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
My eyelashes are on the long side but are thin and sparse. They are straight without a hint of curl and cannot be coaxed to curl with just the mascara. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Today's battle is between YSL and the Maybelline Rocket Volume. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>YSL Singulier mascara</b> was a spur of the moment buy at the duty free store in San Francisco. The tube is heavy gold and is very beautiful to hold. The bristle of the mascara wand is a spiral shape - I have not seen anything like it with other mascaras. The formula is on the drier side and does need multiple coats to give the result I like (thick, dark dramatic lashes). For $34, I expect it to be amazing. I have to say while I like it's non-clumping, non-smudging, super dark colour, I would not repurchase at this price. It feels like I have to put in more of an effort in coating my lashes than other mascaras. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Maybelline Rocket Volume</b> has a nylon bristle, similar to Covergirl Lash Blast, but a little smaller. The bristle can be quite stiff and if not careful can poke the rim of your eyes. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
This formula is also on the drier side (especially compared to Maybelline Falsies). This also provides pretty clump free lashes with multiple coats. What I don't love is how stiff and brittle the lashes feel. Also since I like my lashes to look full and dramatic, the look this mascara gives is not what I like so much. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Have you tried these mascaras? </div>

<br />
Life has been crazy hectic and I have been neglecting this blog for a long time... So sorry!<br />
Will be doing some reviews of drugstore foundations and lip products as well as eyeliners and skincare soon!<br />
<br />
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7002410741581914325.post-63411707344560554682013-04-22T13:42:00.003-07:002013-04-22T22:08:20.334-07:00Primers<div dir="ltr">
There are slew of primers for face and eyes available on the market. Typically they are available in the mid to high range cosmetics than drugstore, though some lines are coming out with them. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Eyeshadow base/primer:</b><br />
Because my eye lids tend to get oily using a shadow base is a must. Eyeshadow base will keep eyeshadow from creasing and eyeliner from smudging. Also the base will make the colors of the shadow more vibrant. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion </div>
<div dir="ltr">
This is my favorite among the ones I have tried. UDPP comes in several shades. I use the original as it blends right into the eyelid. The texture is very soft and velvety. You definitely have to blend quickly as it sets very fast. $14-24 at Sephora. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
Covergirl shadow blast </div>
<div dir="ltr">
This is meant to be a fade resistant eyeshadow which I use as a base. The pink shade I have adds a bit of shimmer and brightens the eye area. It is not completely crease proof though. <br />
About $7-8. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div dir="ltr">
MAC paint pot </div>
<div dir="ltr">
This line is also fade and crease proof cream shadow. I have had this for over 4 years (!) and I still have 1/3 of the pot left. It lasts a long time on the lid - the shade I have is Bare Study which is a champagne shimmer. <br />
$21. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Essence I <3 stage shadow base </div>
<div dir="ltr">
Just picked this up at Shoppers for $3.99. Not sure how this will perform but when I tested it at the store it seemed smooth. Will keep you posted. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Face primer:</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I tend not to use face primer as I don't see much a difference. My skin being oily combo with visible pores you would think primers would help. But what I notice is that the primer seems to make my face more shiny. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Benefit Porefessional </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Very expensive ($36) tube of skin colored silicone primer. It is supposed to fill the pores to create a smooth base. It does smooth out my skin a little but I don't see enough difference to continue using it. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
L'oreal Studio Secrets perfecting base </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
This base is a mousse type - again silicone being the main ingredient. Does smooth the skin and blurs the imperfections just a little. Because it's in a pot it is inconvenient to use. About $11-13. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Hourglass mineral veil </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Just picked up a travel set at Sephora for $29. It resembles a thick lotion and absorbs into skin leaving it smooth. Looking forward to see how it performs as it has been hyped quite a bit online. The full 1 oz size is $60. Very expensive. </div>

This blog entry is a start of a series on different brands of makeup I have tried. Many of the brands will be from the drugstore and a few will be high end.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br />
Maybelline is owned by L'oreal like many other brands but does not share much similarity with the sister drgustore brand L'oreal Paris. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
"Maybe it's Maybelline~"</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Mascara: </div>
<div dir="ltr">
I think the most outstanding product for Maybelline is their mascaras. Surely all have heard of Great Lash (the pink and green tube), which unfortunately does not work for me. All of the mascaras I use are waterproof as non waterproof make the curled lashes droop. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Volume Express Line includes Falsies, Rocket volume, Colossal, Mega Plush and One by One. They are all great at adding volume to my thin lashes. <br />
Colossal volume express is similar to Covergirl Lash Blast. But the brushes have longer bristles which is better at separating the lashes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUrTZIAhUrr-EEOlMYy3i5VjC5gw10z_OKY_a3esPZsQ8M5UuEhPXIyUdo0lLgnEE9ZVvrHQGC4e5VyBHnAQ1uc7BzfMd9MDBmhfhu34z5sRbnpWOzbUa0BfWBnlZnbDYNTy2OwPjj88U/s1600/index.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUrTZIAhUrr-EEOlMYy3i5VjC5gw10z_OKY_a3esPZsQ8M5UuEhPXIyUdo0lLgnEE9ZVvrHQGC4e5VyBHnAQ1uc7BzfMd9MDBmhfhu34z5sRbnpWOzbUa0BfWBnlZnbDYNTy2OwPjj88U/s1600/index.jpg" /></a></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br />
Falsies is my absolute favorite Drugstore mascara because it adds volume and length. I have no complaint at all about this mascara. Currently there are a couple of back up tubes in my drawer, as would any make up junkie. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Rocket Volume is the newest mascara in this line. Gives decent volume and length. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Mega Plush has a very interesting brush head, that bends and is quite dense with plastic bristles. This mascara did not work for me as it gave me more of a natural look. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNSNoUC1fFfp9eRMcDLvgXs3g0oZ0PrETGgQvKwu161a5_5X-dUb_Qvh7dWTELRSS6-iXTy_lrzv6pSiiBSy4KXgnqKAOIQ0w9mWI9Rc2adKc6AJpmQ_uajpVbEwGG3QKLSGN3j5IQDW0/s1600/mega.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNSNoUC1fFfp9eRMcDLvgXs3g0oZ0PrETGgQvKwu161a5_5X-dUb_Qvh7dWTELRSS6-iXTy_lrzv6pSiiBSy4KXgnqKAOIQ0w9mWI9Rc2adKc6AJpmQ_uajpVbEwGG3QKLSGN3j5IQDW0/s1600/mega.jpg" /></a></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>

One by one is great at adding length but not so with volume. </div>

Other mascaras</div>
<div dir="ltr">
Lash stiletto - very similar to L'oreal Voluminous false lashes mascara. Adds quite a bit of length and a bit of volume. The con is that it can get clumpy quite quickly. </div>

This week I decided to do a simple nail art with the manicure. Because my natural nails are weak from a previous salon manicure (they filed down the top layer - I will not be returning to that salon) I decided to use the foundation for gel manicure as a base coat. After the usual gel manicure base coat I used Nicole by OPI to paint most of the nails. For the accent nails I did a moon shaped manicure. Then using a silver glitter nail art brush, drew a half circle on each nail. For the rest of the nails I used a dotting tool and the silver glitter to do my usual dot manicure. <br />
To top off I used the Sache Vite UV top coat which I cured with my LED lamp for one minute. Nails feel very strong and there is no smudge or chipping so far. </div>

For me, I don't just use black eyeliner but use dark brown and purple/navy liners as well. I think purple and navy compliment the brown eyes well. I prefer pencil over pen or gel liner because of its ease of use.<br />
Like my mascaras, I tend to buy waterproof ones to minimize the smudging. <br />
<br />
For my oily eye lids, I need to use an eyeshadow base to ensure that the liner does not smudge. I almost never line the bottom of my eyes because I think heavy lining at the bottom of your lashes make the eyes look smaller than bigger. I also never line the waterline on the bottom for the same reason, in addition to the fact the liner can smear into your actual eyeballs.<br />
<br />
Prestige waterproof eyeliner: cheap, easy to use kohl pencil liner with good color payoff. These are available at London Drugs or Shoppers for under $8. The consistency is smooth and does not smudge much. I always have one in my make up stash. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUque3RZvdMm8DLucFvPIiTpphnwbWAqf7xdSzHYvcUx3AH2E-C7azUZe4W0UMC49r7emhlcm_O06vdUNAxifCOB7a3EilGCZHE0EtF3VBtEvxHhHFqkcKvR99862vow3aFKcFPoBGdEc/s1600/21aNhHtAwbL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUque3RZvdMm8DLucFvPIiTpphnwbWAqf7xdSzHYvcUx3AH2E-C7azUZe4W0UMC49r7emhlcm_O06vdUNAxifCOB7a3EilGCZHE0EtF3VBtEvxHhHFqkcKvR99862vow3aFKcFPoBGdEc/s320/21aNhHtAwbL.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Clio waterproof eyeliner (brown & black): truly waterproof, budge-proof eyeliners that does not need a pencil sharpener. I have gone through 3 - 4 of these in the last couple of years. The pencil is on the harder side so it may tug the eyelids a bit. If I ever want to line tightline (the white part right below the lashes) I tend to use these ones as they do not smudge at all.<br />

<br />
Dollywink eyeliner: super famous Japanese brand. I bought this because the packaging was too darn cute. The black liner is truly black and it is easy to apply. A little harder than Prestige but softer than CLIO. The downfall is that it smudges. <br />

Rimmel eyeliner (automatic): one of the truest purple eyeliners I have enjoyed over the last 10 years or so. Like the Prestige liner, this one is a permanent part of my make up collection. Very cheap (around $5), readily available and simple to use. It used to have sharpener attached at the back of the pencil but now has a smudger.<br />

<br />
The Faceshop Make me star gel pencil liners: another clear winner of non-smudging waterproof pencils. All of them have a fleck of glitter which makes them so pretty. I tend to use the bronze and the navy as a shadow stick.<br />

<br />
MAC gel liner (blacktrack): the infamous gel liner that rivals Bobbi Brown gel liner. I don't use this much because this definitely smudges on me. I actually find gel liners not that easy to use. The gel is very soft and smooth but in my opinion, not as easy to control. <br />

E.L.F. felt tip liquid liner: this is $1!!!!!! yes for $1, you get a decent product. Not waterproof, but have not had any issues with smudging or fading. Love this one. <br />

<br />
Milani liquify pencil liner: I don't know how they do it but this pencil gives a look of a real gel liners. Super black and super soft. My complaint is that it is too soft and I can never get it to sharpen to a fine point so the lines tend to be thicker than I want. This is also waterproof but has not been completely smudge proof on me. <br />

Even though I try to stay away from gluten French bakery is my weakness. My love for pastry is probably as strong as my love for make up. <br>
In Vancouver there are few reputable bakeries I like to visit: Tomas Haas, Bel Cafe, Thierry and Fabourgeou and Beaucoup. <br>
In recent Internet search found that there is a new Parisian bakery opened just a few streets from me and today went to grab a few goodies. Picked up 3 macarons at $2 each,  a croissant $2.75 and a mille feuille $5.80. <br>
The croissant was amazingly light and buttery and flakey all at once. It was crunch on the outside with soft almost pillowy middle. I enjoyed this so much (and with homemade strawberry jam no less).  <br>
The flavors of the macarons I got were black sesame and blueberry cheesecake  (sweet and creamy) and passion fruit (tangy and sweet).  The cookies were a bit softer than I was used to but figured it's because was made today. Would be perfect the day after - as would with all macarons. <br>
Oh so yummy can't wait to try other baked goods!  <br>
Apparently this bakery is run by a mother daughter team - the daughter seemed very young and both were very nice. I appreciate the little things like the sticker on the bag and the beautiful embossed bag. <br>
It's open Wednesday to Sunday 9-6. They also have high tea for $25 that you can reserve 48 hours in advance. Gotta try that soon too. Yummy in my tummy! </p>

<b>LORAC performance foundation</b>:<br />
Bought on a whim as was looking for a long lasting foundation. The SA at Sephora swore by it and unlike my usual self bought it without any research. <br />
The bottle is a clear plastic with pump and air free which I like. And the color matched me very well but that's where the love ended. It applied pretty easily with my fingers but felt tacky and wet for a while until it set. The foundation did not last on my T zone and made my whole face super greasy. Also it settled into my already visible pores making them look worse. It clung to any dry parches which was not attractive. And the foundation did not last any longer than other ones I own. Definitely not keeping it. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi74GVCmqgzWXb3tAN8zJciFzMtDipPaDaDGPk3r_oIbgTFn3SaUkBc__ziLp_sIHoV-LVAAfcBDBAL2zLqXhLXvzFz0bSiVe0JoNh05GdRy7ek5dVuwbAqIWxuxy1FJsyTaNvgEyPc3-A/s1600/IMG_20130228_215205.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi74GVCmqgzWXb3tAN8zJciFzMtDipPaDaDGPk3r_oIbgTFn3SaUkBc__ziLp_sIHoV-LVAAfcBDBAL2zLqXhLXvzFz0bSiVe0JoNh05GdRy7ek5dVuwbAqIWxuxy1FJsyTaNvgEyPc3-A/s400/IMG_20130228_215205.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<b>Kat Von D Lock it foundation</b>:<br />
Now I am not a fan of Kat Von D nor do I desire to look like her. When I heard she has a make up line I was very skeptical. Then I started watching and reading all these amazing reviews of her foundation. Since was disappointed with Lorac one I was a little weary of getting this one. I am happy to report I love this. It again is in a plastic bottle with a pump which I like. The shade I got is L48 (medium with beige undertone). Thought M5 (medium with warm beige undertone) may be a better match for me but this foundation runs a little darker than in the bottle and seems to match well. <br />
This foundation is very thick almost like a cream. Instead of my usual fingers I use a damp Beauty Blender to tap this on. The lasting power is over 12 hours (minus my nose which needs blotting in about 4 hours) even without setting power and the color does not oxidize. And since its long lasting it makes the blush stay on my face longer as well. This is a definite repurchase worthy. I am going to have to try the concealer which I have also been hearing is very good. <br />
Note: due to its popularity the stock is scarce at Sephora and Sephora.com. If you find your shade in stock you better pick it up. $34 usd or $41cdn</div>

<div dir="ltr">
<b>Beauty Blender</b>:<br />
I really thought that it was a crazy hype to buy a $19 sponge. But happy to say it really works to blend the foundation on skin beautifully. It removes the cake and heavy look that can result from foundation not being blended well. <br />
You run the sponge under running water, squeeze out the water then squeeze with a dry towel to use it. The sponge almost doubles in size and is very bouncy. I use the round bottom for most of the face and the pointed end for under the eyes and sides of the nose. I am not sure how long this is to last. Hoping with care it will last at least a year. Sephora sells it for $19 but have seen it in Amazon.com for much cheaper. </div>

December I did some research on affordable skincare. Came across the Sana Tonyu (soy) line and have been pleasantly surprised. The line I bought is the original one - a soy toner and a cream (a decent sample of cleanser came with it). Both the toner and the cream were about 1000 yen each, approximately $12 CAD. <br />
<br />
This line doesn't seem to contain any fragrance which I really enjoy. The cleanser produces thick foam that cleanses the face without drying it. The toner is light milk color and leaves the skin feeling hydrated. The cream is what I enjoy the most. It is more like a thick gel-cream hybrid that blends into skin rather quickly. I can feel that my skin is moisturized and feels plump in the morning. I have not had any issues with this line at all such as break outs or rashes. <br />
<br />
This line is called Nameraka Honpo on Sasa.com and the whole range is available. <br />

Went to look for a new long lasting foundation as the ones I have were too dark for the paler me in the winter. <br>
The sales girl suggested Lorac performance foundation. Also picked up Kat Von D setting spray to try. <br>
Will update in a couple of weeks! </p>

I have a very thick, resilient hair and I don't recall its natural colour or state as have been colouring and perming/straightening it since I was 15. Currently it is coloured and straightened (ionic straightening, aka. Magic perm). It is very processed and thus dry and brittle.<br />
<br />
My goal is to make my hair as soft as possible. Initially I thought I need to use reconstructive shampoo and conditioners. The products I was trying were from Dove Nourishing oil line and Garnier Fructis. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKTWQJySJm5zxxcSrg4Nmcu5_m2dTgO20HNVZfQ2ypOSnLRgw5hIq5Oy_WEBydGi7dp6GNgGHvTTyYpFvBNQVXTNR2V9YCqIN4rmMbiB_b9GSBzMFW9GQTkr2gyzW91sgYgw5aINS6qkM/s1600/13524290.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKTWQJySJm5zxxcSrg4Nmcu5_m2dTgO20HNVZfQ2ypOSnLRgw5hIq5Oy_WEBydGi7dp6GNgGHvTTyYpFvBNQVXTNR2V9YCqIN4rmMbiB_b9GSBzMFW9GQTkr2gyzW91sgYgw5aINS6qkM/s1600/13524290.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG_ehEwJbOfe1K3PgSMEk0kN2mrdSr3a-F2GehYOG204su9TrXyWz1GJe9jl_TbLl_uyzf77YIV1ZKnIwLMbl6MVylbbUXW-E_1HmIn1be9WTePMGzr9UDR2eELYxD9T5DRjCJZK9XbsY/s1600/13905999_265x265_pad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG_ehEwJbOfe1K3PgSMEk0kN2mrdSr3a-F2GehYOG204su9TrXyWz1GJe9jl_TbLl_uyzf77YIV1ZKnIwLMbl6MVylbbUXW-E_1HmIn1be9WTePMGzr9UDR2eELYxD9T5DRjCJZK9XbsY/s1600/13905999_265x265_pad.jpg" /></a></div>
The Dove shampoo and conditioner seemed to be working as it had heavier conditioning agents. However after a few weeks I noticed my hair seemed more brittle than before. From my research I see that any shampoo/conditioner with protein should not be used for a long time as it adds to the brittleness (amino acid build up?). <br />
Garnier shampoo I used for a week and a half and threw away - it was stripping my hair and have to say was one of the worst shampoos I have tried.<br />
<br />
I went on another quest to look for shampoos and found L'oreal Evercreme intense nourishing sulfate free shampoo. I had read that sulfate is a culprit in drying out the hair and was excited to find this. Even though it is sulfate free, it lathers wonderfully with thick foam (which I enjoy). The smell is of vanilla scent which doesn't linger too long. I do notice that my hair is feeling softer and tad more moisturized. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKMeO-FqP7l7xoiGVGlsK9S_hkjv9Hjn10PRaQPO79yb1cIdOv3ws6_qcNqFJ4ukN1D02dQTx4A-kEL5OJYpSPMeYadBf9X46gZB5-gcwrqJRg4OGUpQpduguL88Y4nJxb3rRjePde7BE/s1600/HCa14_9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKMeO-FqP7l7xoiGVGlsK9S_hkjv9Hjn10PRaQPO79yb1cIdOv3ws6_qcNqFJ4ukN1D02dQTx4A-kEL5OJYpSPMeYadBf9X46gZB5-gcwrqJRg4OGUpQpduguL88Y4nJxb3rRjePde7BE/s1600/HCa14_9.jpg" /></a></div>
The game changer for me was the L'oreal Vitamino color conditioner, which I mentioned my my 2012 hits <a href="http://beautyjunkydiaries.blogspot.ca/2013/01/hits-and-misses-2012.html" target="_blank">post</a>. With the first use, I saw a huge difference. The conditioner is not as thick as some other moisturizing products yet hydrates wonderfully. My hair is so much softer.I plan to use this as long as I can. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwHc6_hC-mueckoAwB6RhKXqBlIWE4vdqCEEotBUubwuHooLYWhq3SCaiXbuUK3Y095Sf30ZsRyt-HWSDz0ge61pVoukS_ytG5d4WM7lsx2wOqBQbXQDEHmnJpVQVsFJuoZMFwE9uOydE/s1600/41zHDM-lA8L._SY450_.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwHc6_hC-mueckoAwB6RhKXqBlIWE4vdqCEEotBUubwuHooLYWhq3SCaiXbuUK3Y095Sf30ZsRyt-HWSDz0ge61pVoukS_ytG5d4WM7lsx2wOqBQbXQDEHmnJpVQVsFJuoZMFwE9uOydE/s1600/41zHDM-lA8L._SY450_.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Another line that I found that is good is Clear (same maker as Dove line - Unilever). I first heard about this though YouTube where people rave about it. These shampoos and conditioners are supposed treat your scalp as well as the hair. They are usually about $7 per bottle but I saw them on sale for $4 (and -$2 coupon) at Superstore so I had to buy them.<br />
Just used it once and I am impressed! It made my hair super soft and almost fluffy (sign of my hair when it is hydrated). I kept on touching my hair all day long as it was noticeably different.<br />
The shampoo I bought is Total Care and the conditioner is Damage & Colour repair. I am planning to alternate these with the L'oreal shampoo and conditioner.<br />

Well I can't believe it's already almost the middle of January 2013. Where is the time going? <br />
As a true beauty junky I have tried a lot of products in 2012 and thought it would be fun to recap some of my favorites and not so favorites. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
Hits<br />
1. Revlon kissable balm stains (shdes:honey, darling and sweetheart) </div>
<div dir="ltr">
I have very pale lips so without lipstick I almost look ill. Enter the world of stains. I love lip stains because the touch up is minimal. But didn't like the traditional stains that tend to dry my lips. Also the shade selections were pretty limited. <br />
Revlon kissable balm stains look like fat crayons and addresses the issues I had with the other stains. This balm stain is moisturizing and is so easy to use. Just swipe it like a lipbalm.<br />
Honey is a neutral mauve that I wear almost daily. <br />
Darling is a light violet that is also wearable during daytime. Both however leave a stain that is deeper than what you see in the stick. I think this all depends on your chemistry as the stains don't look the same on all people. It lasts almost 5 to 6 hours and that means I only need to touch up once and look 'healthy'. </div>

2. Shiseido perfect refining foundation. <br />
A recent discovery that I am enjoying very much. This foundation is very thin and seems to be hard to work with. However it actually gives a very good coverage and is easy to blend. The SPF 16 in the foundation is also a nice plus. <br />
With this I don't need concealer and on my combination skin lasts upto 8 hours! Bought mine at the Duty free shop in YVR airport for $38. </div>

<div dir="ltr">
3. L'oreal professional Vitamino colour conditioner <br />
My hair has been chemically straightened, permed and coloured constantly. I tend to colour my hair every 2-3 months and am amazed that I still have decent hair left! I wash it every 2 days as it is heavily processed and extremely dry. When it comes to shampoo and conditioner I tend to like Japanese or Korean brands but noticed lately that they weren't working so effectively. The Viamino conditioner was a recommendation from a salon. It is $17 for a measly 200ml but worth every penny. My hair is light and soft and not weighed down at all. The hair feels super moisturized without the waxy film (like Pantene or Dove). Loving the results and hoping this will last a while. </div>

Misses</div>
<div dir="ltr">
1. EOS lipbalm </div>
<div dir="ltr">
This lip balm comes in such a cute packaging and was crazy popular amongst the beauty bloggers and YouTubers. I had ordered mine online because Canadian drugstores were not carrying them at the beginning of 2012. While I love the package, the lip balm itself and the shape doesn't do much. The balm is waxy and does not help with the chapped lips. It is also not cheap ($4 - 5 each). Definitely will not be repurchasing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
2. elf Complete Coverage concealer </div>
<div dir="ltr">
I tend to like elf products - what's not to like when you can get makeup and tools for $3 or $1! The Studio line is my favourite from elf and I enjoy the 50% off sales they have often. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
While I don't wear concealer every day, at times I look in the mirror in the afternoon and think "shoot, I should have brought some concealer to cover those spots..". Enter the 4 pan concealer palette which was very promising. Alas, the colour is great but the staying power is not. The formula is a thick cream, but does not go on too thick. The coverage is sheer and wears off in less than an hour! So my search continues. </div>

While I own a whole array of products and try them out often, Monday to Friday makeup is done in 5 minutes or less.<br />
<br />
Typically the products I use on a daily basis include:<br />
<b>Foundation</b> - I always use my fingers because it is the fastest and the easiest. If I am in the mood to use a brush, I have been trying the Shiseido Perfect Refining brush.<br />
Nars Sheer Glow or Shiseido Perfect Refining foundation is what I am using lately. <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<b>Blush</b> - currently using VS beauty. I prefer pink over peach tone. Using the duo fibre brush, I sweep a light dust of this on my cheeks. <br />
<br />
<b>Eyebrow pencil </b>- Shu Uemura<br />
I always return to this pencil. It looks like a drawing pencil; the magic of it is that it works with the oil on you eyebrows but never too dark as some other eyebrow pencils I have tried. Because my hair is brown right now, I use the shade 6 (bought in Hongkong). Seal Grey (Shade 2) is another one I use - when my hair is darker.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<b>Eye liner </b>- I prefer pencil over liquid because it's fast. Current favourite is Dollywink and The Faceshop Make me Star in Bronze.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAqR5UWLUQW92P43MJraNIsAvnJCgBFqv_042HVOGj51s58SJ3Dyqganfvojlg-9OrN6UeQDRlMaxWCtuBh-WNO_ZKoOeP9X2qfK1MY9feQreRT1RkkpnPlS_5Hhg-LCwD_1uO0-H5qpE/s1600/tfs.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAqR5UWLUQW92P43MJraNIsAvnJCgBFqv_042HVOGj51s58SJ3Dyqganfvojlg-9OrN6UeQDRlMaxWCtuBh-WNO_ZKoOeP9X2qfK1MY9feQreRT1RkkpnPlS_5Hhg-LCwD_1uO0-H5qpE/s1600/tfs.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Mascara</b> - curl with Shu Uemura culrer first. Using Heroine Make Volume and Curl (please refer to my eyelash post <a href="http://beautyjunkydiaries.blogspot.ca/2012/02/lashes-lashes-lashes-i.html" target="_blank">here</a>) <br />
<br />
<b>Powder </b>- to set and control the oil. Revlon Colorstay or Shiseido Aqualabel<br />
Because I have an oily T-zone without powder I will look quite greasy in a couple of hours. Dust the powder lightly with a big fluffy brush all over.<br />
<br />
<b>Lipstain</b> - Revlon Kissable Lip balm stain. Will be doing a review in these soon. <br />
<br />
I almost never touch up my make up during the day. The only thing I do is use the Clean & Clear oil blotting film as my T zone can get oily by 11am and powder my nose in the mid afternoon.<br />

As always I use waterproof ones to hold the curls in my lashes. <br>
Typically I use the Maybelline Falsity original and Heroine make kiss me volume and curl (regular repeat buys).<br>
Covergirl lash blast is a very popular drugstore mascara that gets good reviews online and on YouTube. I have purchased and uses this a couple of times and I have a love and hate relationship with it. Because the brush head is so big, I find it a bit difficult to apply cleanly. The bristles are short synthetic ones. <br>
The mascara itself is pretty wet initially and I like it after a few weeks after it has been opened. </p>
<p dir=ltr>How I apply this is to use the tip of the brush to coat the roots of my lashes first. Otherwise it can be clumpy. Then I coat carefully from roots up. Again it takes time otherwise I can the mascara on my eyelids. <br>
Pro is that multiple coats can be applied without making the lashes look too spidery. Also it gives very good length and makes the lashes very black. After about 8 hours this does smudge a bit on my bottom lids. <br>
I always use the cleansing oil to take it off as it is pretty tenacious. </p>
